Information asymmetries

This is the name given when one party has more information about a product or service than the other. 

Technical assistance and rural extension (ATER)

ATER policies in Brazil aim to promote sustainable development in rural areas by offering technical and managerial support to farmers, especially small and medium-sized farmers. These policies seek to improve agricultural productivity, economic efficiency, and living conditions in rural areas. ATER includes services such as guidance on best agricultural practices, resource management, use of new technologies, and strategies to add value to agricultural products.

Sectoral self-regulation

Mechanism in which the agents of an economic sector themselves establish control rules and practices, without direct imposition by the State, with the aim of aligning conduct and reducing regulatory risks.

Trade balance

It is the difference between a country's exports and imports in a given period.

Non-tariff barriers

Restrictions on foreign trade that deal with quantitative restrictions, import licensing, customs procedures, arbitrary customs valuation or fictitious values. These may be, for example, sanitary, phytosanitary, environmental and social barriers. 

Tariff barriers

Restrictions on foreign trade through the imposition of import tariffs and various fees.

Animal welfare

It refers to the provision of conditions that provide physical, mental and physiological comfort so that animals remain free from fear, hunger, thirst, cold, and heat.

Non-mutually exclusive goods

Collective benefits that can be enjoyed by everyone, regardless of who pays for them. In agriculture, environmental services such as carbon sequestration or biodiversity conservation are typical examples.
