José Pimenta participates in a debate on geopolitics and the competitiveness of agricultural inputs.

José Pimenta, Policy Fellow at Insper Agro Global, participated this Tuesday (25) in the meeting of the Agricultural Inputs Thematic Chamber (CTIA), of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA), in Brasília. The meeting was attended by the Ministry's technical team, led by the Secretary of Agricultural Policy, Guilherme Campos, who was present in the debates, as well as representatives of companies, associations and different segments of Brazilian agribusiness.

During the meeting, Pimenta presented an analysis of the relationship between geopolitics, international trade, and agribusiness, highlighting how transformations in the global landscape affect access to, cost of, and security of supply of strategic inputs for Brazilian production. The discussion also addressed possible risk mitigation measures, diversification of suppliers and trading partners, and the impacts of current international tensions on agricultural production chains.

The debate also highlighted the importance of a long-term strategy to enhance the resilience of supply chains and strengthen Brazilian competitiveness. In an international environment marked by increased competition for strategic resources, industrial policies, and the reorganization of trade flows, the availability of agricultural inputs has become a topic that connects economic security, international integration, and Brazil's ability to maintain its position among the world's leading food producers and exporters.

Insper Agro Global is actively involved in the fertilizer agenda, one of the most sensitive inputs in Brazilian agribusiness due to its high dependence on imports. The center has been mapping the main bottlenecks in the supply chain and classifying the different types of risks that can compromise the country's supply, whether they are geopolitical, commercial, regulatory, or climatic in nature. This work aims to support both companies and public policy makers in building diversification and mitigation strategies, reducing the sector's exposure to external shocks in fertilizer supply.
